Kadriorg Park & Palace Kadriorg Palace is one of the most beautiful examples of baroque style in Tallinn. When Peter the Great ordered a palace built in 1718, he knew he would spend time there only on rare visits to Tallinn and, in fact, stayed only once before his death in 1725. Designed by the Italian architect Niccolo Michetti, the grandiose palace and surrounding manicured gardens are a humbling example of Tsarist extravagance. Another important reason for visiting the Palace is that it is also home to the foreign art collection of the Art Museum of Estonia. While there, don8217't miss the decadent, two-storey main hall with its elaborately painted ceiling. The cultivated grounds and wild groves are still favorite places for wandering any time of the year. The visit is followed by a drive along the Finish Bay and a visit to St. Bridgit8217's Convent, founded in 1407 by the Bridgetine order. The convent crumbled in a siege by Ivan the Terrible in 1577 and its stones were later carted off to construction projects throughout Tallinn. What remains today are the towering Gothic gable and walls of the main hall as well as some surrounding foundations and cellars.

Hermitage Museum Under the guidance of a local guide you will be led through the main section of the State Hermitage Museum and shown masterpieces of the world's second largest art museums, after the Louvre in Paris. The Hermitage contains a collection of approximately 3,000,000 exhibits from ancient times to the present day.

Nikolaevsky Palace For a true Russian evening out why not join this excursion to Nikolaevsky Palace. The Palace was originally built for Grand Duke Nicole Nikolaevich in 1853. In 1895 it housed the Kseninsky Boarding School and then in the early 1918 the building was taken over by the Trade Union Council and renamed the Palace of Labour. On entering the Palace you will be greeted by soft music from a string quartet and after being seated you can enjoy a Russian show performed by folklore groups of the city. Lyrical dances and original Russian songs will help you to learn more about the Russian soul. During the interval you will be served Russian refreshments and a glass of Russian champagne.

Approximate value: €55 EUR per person

Peter & Paul Fortress A local guide will show you round this fortress commissioned by Peter the Great and built in 1703 as a protection against the Swedes. It stands on Hare Island and is one of the most historic parts of the area - in fact it eventually became St. Petersburg. The Fortress became a notorious prison for people such as Dostoevky, Trotsky and Lenin's eldest brother as well as many revolutionaries. In the centre of the complex is a beautiful Cathedral with a golden spire, which is such a contrast to the grim, depressing jail. Inside the Cathedral one can see the tombs of most of the Tsars and Tsarinas from the 18th century, including that of Peter the Great himself.

Approximate value: €30 EUR per person

Built on 14 islands in a panorama of lakes and sea, it boasts 10 centuries of history and culture. The latter is now the site of the Nobel Museum and the Spanish Academy.
