The best of culture and nature.

Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live today, and what we pass on to future generations. The sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List are of outstanding universal value to humanity. They represent the diversity of the cultural and natural heritage of our planet. Some things are so valuable that all of humanity should watch over them: exceptionally beautiful cities, landscapes, and cultural assets, for example. And peace, too. "Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed." Such is the central idea behind UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, founded in 1945. Its highest goal is the safeguarding of peace. It also manages the World Heritage of humanity, both cultural and natural.
