See some of Europe’s most precious gems on this magnificent mosaic of European culture. Begin in London with two overnights and free time to discover the UK’s capital. Cross the English Channel by ferry and board your motorcoach for Amsterdam, a city built on water with 165 canals. In Germany, travel along the castle-dotted Rhine River and join the Romantic Road as it passes by medieval towns with fairytale-looking, half-timbered houses. Overnight in Munich and continue south through the majestic Dolomites on your way to Venice. A boat ride along one of the main canals takes you to St. Mark’s Square, with time to admire the famous Venetian landmarks. On to Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance,” for a guided walking tour that features Palazzo Vecchio, sculpture-filled Signoria Square, the Duomo, and more. Heading north, cross the Lombardy plains into Switzerland’s Canton Ticino for a stop in lovely subtropical Lugano before climbing toward St. Gotthard Tunnel and then descending to Lake Lucerne. Your vacation ends in Paris, the “City of Light,” where a local expert shows you the sites, and you’ll enjoy free time to soak up the romantic beauty.

A full day to savor our rich program of optional activities: take a panoramic tour of London’s landmarks, visit the Tower of London, or choose an excursion to Windsor Castle. Tonight, maybe a leisurely cruise on the Thames River?

Day 3 London–Amsterdam Area, Holland

Leave London in the early morning and head through the lush English countryside to the Channel port, where you board your FERRY for the Continent. Here, you meet your Tour Director and join your luxury coach for the drive to the Amsterdam area.

Day 4 Amsterdam Area–Rhineland, Germany

Today, enjoy sightseeing in Amsterdam, with a Local Guide pointing out the city highlights. Later, a CANAL CRUISE to see the town from water level, then watch the cutting and polishing of precious stones at a DIAMOND CENTER. In the afternoon, travel southwards to reach the Rhineland for an overnight.

Day 5 Rhineland–Romantic Road–Rothenburg–Munich

Start the day with a scenic drive along the shores of the Rhine or opt for a Rhine cruise. Admire the pretty villages, the castles perched high above the river, and the numerous terraced vineyards. Next, a drive along the Romantic Road, through towns and villages protected by medieval towered gates and battlements, with squares of half-timbered houses and richly decorated fountains. A fine example of this architecture is the center of Rothenburg, where you stop awhile. Overnight in Munich.

Day 6 Munich–Innsbruck, Austria–Venice Area, Italy

Travel from Munich to Austria for a stop in the capital of Tyrol, Innsbruck. In the afternoon, drive over Brenner Pass into the Dolomites to admire this unique natural wonder before the descent into the Piave Valley to the Venice area.

Day 7 Venice–Montecatini

The included orientation tour starts with a BOAT RIDE and is followed by a chance to watch Venetian GLASSBLOWERS fashion their delicate objects as they did centuries ago. Then, southwards into the hilly Tuscan countryside to reach Montecatini for two overnights.

Day 8 Montecatini. Excursion to Florence

Florence, a Renaissance gem and city of the Medicis, will keep you enthralled all day. Traffic is banned in part of the historic center, so visitors can wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty in relative peace and quiet. Don’t miss out on the included WALKING TOUR with a Local Guide that features most of the city highlights. You will see Piazza Santa Croce; beautiful Piazza Signoria; Palazzo Vecchio; Loggia dei Lanzi; and, to top it all, Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, and the magnificent East Door of the Baptistry, known as the “Gate of Paradise.” Later, join the optional excursion to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Day 9 Montecatini–Lugano, Switzerland–Lucerne Area

Across the Lombardy plains this morning to Canton Ticino’s subtropical resort of Lugano. Here, you take a break to stroll along the lakeside promenade before your motorcoach climbs towards the St. Gotthard Tunnel. Emerge on the German-speaking side of Switzerland, then descend into the gentle landscape around the Lucerne area.

Day 10 Lucerne Area–Paris, France

This morning, visit the LION MONUMENT and CHAPEL BRIDGE before joining an optional boat trip. Then, enjoy vistas of green pastures and attractive chalets with rustic timbering and luxuriant flowers. Enter France via the highway, past some of its most famous vineyards, to Paris. Arrive in time to enjoy an optional cabaret show.

Day 11 Paris

Included sightseeing with a local expert shows off many of the best-known Parisian sights: La Sorbonne, Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramid near the Louvre, the Invalides, and Champs Elysées. Optional excursions are also available to visit some of the highlights and, to celebrate the success of your tour, a French farewell dinner might be just the ticket.

A unique chance to combine a traditional London pub experience with a relaxed, night-time river cruise, viewing some of the capital's most beautiful illuminated sights. Enjoy a three-course dinner with several local menu choices, including fish and chips and steak and ale pie at an historic London pub in the City of London. During August and September when the Queen makes her annual visit to Scotland, the Palace's state rooms are open to visitors. These are the heart of the Palace, lavishly furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection which are used for ceremonial occasions and official entertaining. Before entry to the Palace you will visit the Royal Mews, one of the finest working stables still in existence. See the State vehicles, both horse-drawn carriages and cars, used for coronations, royal weddings and State Visits, including the magnificent Gold State Coach which has been used for every coronation since 1821 and was last used for The Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002.

The Tower of London is one of the most famous historic buildings in the world. Built by William the Conqueror in 1066-1067, it has been guarded by Yeoman Warders (popularly known as the Beefeaters) since the 14th century. It has been a fortress, a royal palace, a prison, a place of execution, and an armory. It is most famously known as the home to the priceless Crown Jewels, including the solid gold crown used at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the Imperial State Crown and Sovereigns Sceptre, the incredible Cullinan diamonds, and the Koh-i-Noor.

The Rhine is one of the longest and most important rivers in Europe, running for over 1,232 kms. and flowing through 6 countries. The Rhine cruise we offer lasts approx. 1 and a half hours and is in the Rhine gorge - a steep sided valley filled with vineyards and castles overlooking the river. Pass the legendary Lorelei Rock, which soars some 120 meters above the waterline, and is also the name of a feminine water spirit. One drink per person is included during the cruise.

By Night and Caffe Florian

On this evening excursion in Venice you will be accompanied by the tour director and first will be taken aboard your private motorboat to glide along the impressive Giudecca Canal passing by Giudecca Island. See a variety of important palaces all built by the Venetian gentry between the 12th and 13th centuries. Upon disembarkation you will continue with a stroll through some of the romantic streets of Venice finishing up in St. Mark's Square. Here you can sit back and enjoy the particular atmosphere of the Square at the famous and historical "Caffe Florian" where you will be served two items of your choice - cappuccino or coffee or soft drink or glass of wine or ice cream or tea or Venetian cookies. A five piece band will entertain you with popular, easy listening and classical music. (Note that this live music is not available all the year round). At the end of this romantic evening rejoin the motorboat for the first part of your journey back to the hotel.

One of the highlights of a trip to Europe and something not to be missed during your visit to Venice is a gondola serenade. The gondola ride either takes place in the morning or the afternoon and lasts approximately 30 minutes when during this time you can relax whilst cruising not only on the Grand Canal but also down many small canals to see Venice from the water. During the gondola ride a local musician will serenade you with the traditional romantic music of Italy. Note: the gondola is to be shared with other Cosmos guests (maximum 6 participants on each gondola). There will be one musician on board of one of the gondola boats in your fleet.

Excursion to Pisa

The celebrated Leaning Tower of Pisa is no doubt well-known all over Europe and there is no better way to actually get close up to it than on this half day excursion to Pisa when you are staying in the Florence area. The medieval walls of Pisa and the riversides are landmarks that make it easy to take bearings in the extraordinary variety of Pisa's artistic, architectural, historical and cultural heritage. After departing from the hotel you will travel through the fertile and picturesque Tuscan countryside with the tour director giving you a commentary on the cities by-passed, to the historic university city of Pisa. After a panoramic view of the beautiful riverside you will be taken on foot to the Piazza dei Cavalieri, where one of the most famous universities in the world - Scuola Normale Superiore - can be seen. The visit of Pisa then proceeds to the "Square of Miracles" which is partly paved and partly grassed and is dominated by four great religious edifices - The "Duomo", the "Campanile", the "Baptistry" and the "Camposanto". In 1987 the whole square was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will have plenty of time on your own to wander around and also for shopping before returning back to Florence area.

Enjoy a lovely evening out in the Tuscan countryside in a restaurant which is situated on the land of an ancient farm. The farm was completely renewed and the production of the wine and olive oil are open to visitors with traditional Tuscan hospitality. During the winter season the old wine cellar becomes a warm and welcoming dining room. In spring and autumn, weather permitting, one can dine outside and enjoy the warmth of the first or last sunbeams whilst in the summer the ancient surrounding trees offer a cool shelter and the outside lamps create a magical setting. You can sample a good selection of local Tuscan dishes together with a tasting of locally produced wines plus mineral water, coffee and Italian liqueur.
